Building global connections through cross-cultural careers at TEAM
Empowered to succeed – Rob’s journey at TEAM
Rob Edwards, Insights Manager
At TEAM, empowering employees to drive their careers is at the core of the company’s culture. Rob, a key player in the Insights department, is a prime example of how this empowerment has contributed to his development and success.
Building potential and taking initiative
Growing up in England, Rob’s passion for sports has been a constant throughout his life. In fact, he aspired to be a professional rugby player, but when that wasn’t realised, he found new motivation to build a career on the business side of the sports industry. While completing his Master’s degree in Sports Business, he also gained valuable experience working for Sheffield United Football Club, setting the stage for his future in the football world.
Although his career search was primarily based in the UK, Rob was open to relocating. With Swiss roots and fond memories of visiting family there as a child, Switzerland was a natural option. He applied for TEAM’s inaugural Graduate Talent Programme Link opens in a new tab. , but during his interviews, TEAM saw an opportunity for him to succeed in a more focused role.
Rather than the rotational Graduate position, Rob was offered a full-time position directly in the Digital/Strategy department (and Eliana Link opens in a new tab. went on to be TEAM’s first Graduate instead). Rob quickly found himself in an environment where, despite being a new and relatively young employee, he was encouraged to take on significant responsibilities and take ownership of his work.
He quickly transitioned to the Insights department to help connect the dots between digital reporting and the rest of the Insights programme. Originally looking more at digital (social media and web/app) data, he now handles all media (TV/digital) reporting, alongside monitoring the brand health of the UEFA men’s club competitions. Rob’s ability to take complex data, transform it into actionable insights, and make recommendations tailored to UEFA’s commercial partners showcased his ability to adapt and thrive. Over the span of six years, he earned two promotions and now manages a team of two.
The Insights department is at the heart of TEAM’s decision-making, which means working across various departments and projects. This variety in his day-to-day work is unique and keeps him motivated.
"From day one, I was given the responsibility to make an impact. It’s a steep learning curve, but I was empowered to step up."
People first: TEAM’s supportive environment
TEAM makes a conscious effort to provide employees the tools and support they need to succeed, regardless of their level of experience. For Rob, this meant being exposed to senior leadership early on in his career, giving him the chance to learn from experienced leaders and be part of key decision-making processes.
Rob is quick to point out that it’s the combination of trust, fulfilling work and a supportive culture that sets TEAM apart; the people really make TEAM a great place to work. When he relocated to Switzerland, the strong community at TEAM made the transition smooth; there were always colleagues with whom to connect, attend football matches or even share an apartment.
Outside of work, Rob embraced TEAM’s social culture by joining lunchtime football games and even setting up a golf club. Switzerland’s central location has allowed him to indulge in his love for travel, exploring new places every few weeks.
Relocating to a new country was easier than I imagined. Everyone at TEAM is incredibly approachable and welcoming, and there’s always someone ready to help you succeed
